Narrative:
A long time ago, in a bedroom far, far away…
Darkness has fallen, yet one solitary light remains, a light that is a symbol of sheer defiance to adhere to the first order for siblings Luke and Leia to put their toys away and go to bed. ‘I am your father and I command you both to slumber before I shall disconnect the power and capture all of your action figures and hold them captive in the depths of the basement.’
Meanwhile the brave duo feel that the force is strong and despite the imminent threat, they find a new hope and both draw their light sabres and face the threat before calmly uttering the words ‘BOLLOCKS WE WILL!’. When the pull of Luke and Leia’s Star Wars playsets is just too strong and their minds are well and truly away in another galaxy, these little toy troopers have no intention of crawling to bed, let alone tidying their room!
Following on from my incredibly popular ‘Bollocks to Bedtime!’, ‘May The Toys Be With You!’ continues the story in unparalleled detail. So, if you are a Star Wars fan and refuse to grow up then this epic artwork is going to blow your mind!
I have been blown away by the reaction ‘Bollocks to Bedtime!’ since its release back in 2022, there was always the thought to expand on it over time and what better way to kick start that by transforming the children’s bedroom into a Star Wars shrine?! The first piece left a lot to your imagination with no clues as to the names of the siblings whose bedroom was on view so adding their names onto the furniture in magnetic letters is a sweet touch.
What we see is their bedroom littered with over 100 action figures, dolls, playsets, vehicles and spacecraft from the iconic Kenner toy series from years ago to show their absolute love for franchise, the number of things to spot is on another planet! This will keep you busy for light years to come! Creating this piece took an absolute age, not just the time to add in all the elements, but the research and planning to ensure the accuracy was there and the correct bias was achieved, making some iconic details were able to shine, whilst also making others incredibly difficult to spot.
As an artist, to be able to create pieces such as this is absolutely amazing as it gives me an opportunity to revisit my wonderful childhood and immerse myself in my memories to then allow you to do the same from interacting with my art, I feed off your reaction and feedback and helps me to create such authentic imagery for many to enjoy. I do hope that you love the impact of this piece and can enjoy trying to spot the toys that you had as a kid or maybe even still own today as an adult that refuses to grow up!
