Over the past decade or so, I have created a good number of artworks inspired by the incredible narrative of British novelist J. K. Rowling, with each being significantly different to the other. Some of my much earlier commissioned pieces were surreal and very niche when given ‘carte blanche’ with the brief. A little later I created a much more blatant piece, ‘Draco Dormiens’ that simply showcased the splendour and magic of Hogwarts. There then followed a bonkers and vivid window into platform 9 3\/4 that showed that anything was indeed possible. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eA couple of years followed, and I created a seriously intense piece (Bring Me To Life - Unlock The Heavens In My Mind) that was highly conceptual with multi-layered narratives that personified my intention of creating art with meaning. It was clear that I was building up a much-adored portfolio of Harry Potter inspired works that caused intrigue and adulation rather than offense! True to form, there would always be another chapter. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAt a show in late 2025 I was talking to a collector and when I mentioned the plan to create a new piece, their eyes lit up and told me that it had to feature the Forbidden Forest. That was the seed right there, it is what I absolutely love, seeing the excitement from those who show so much loyalty and affection for my work. Now if you are aware of my portfolio then you will know that I do love to work with captivating forest scenes, almost as much as cars! I set about with the intention of combining both but as the direction twisted and turned with this new piece it wasn’t suited, next time for sure! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhat I first saw in my head was a bold but dark scene at night with mist and coloured lighting that linked to the palette used in ‘Anything’s Possible’ and that would have been very effective. However, from speaking with Jemima in production who happens to be a big fan of Harry Potter, she brought my attention to the stag that appears in the forest in the form of a Patronus that is Harry’s own, cast to protect from danger. Immediately I was inspired due to me featuring a stag in several of my ‘Storyteller’ works to depict guidance through adversity or grief. It just made sense and aligned to my mindset at the time. I guess that what makes an artist’s truly unique and authentic when their work is influenced and driven by their mind and emotions, be it current or past. I wear my heart on my sleeve and lay it down on canvas. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis window into the forest puts you right there and sets it at that moment when you find strength at times of need to reach out for the protection from within. In the scene you can see the dangers rising towards you in numbers, some blatant, other’s creeping in the shadows. A majestic stag dominates the landscape, offering protection and comfort, it’s such a powerful sight that all the subtle references are simply a wonderful layer to seek out and enjoy. Darkness and light drive this piece, I am sure you are familiar with my love for depicting how close they reside to one another as the warmth of the sunlight lessens the strength and unease of the shadows, portraying hope amongst the hurt. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSo, apologies if any of you were hoping for a more blatant interpretation this time but it is simply where my mind is at and seeking a little calm amongst the chaos. Next time for sure! I am so proud of how this new piece has turned out, it is beautiful and honest and so incredibly poignant and personal, not just for me but hopefully for so many of you for many a reason. Goldfinger was a particular favourite, it was classy yet had a real sinister undertone to it, the image of the lady dead on the bed covered in gold freaked me out as a kid! Have you spotted her within the scene?! ‘Oddjob’ was another that scared the hell out of me, that bloody hat! With names like ‘Pussy Galore’ and how my mind works, this piece could have gone in a very different direction but I was determined to create a scene with real class and focus on THE Bond car, the stunning and acclaimed Aston Martin DBS. The presence of the car is more than enough, you can’t mess around with it. The film had so many great locations but my preferred setting was always the stunning Swiss mountains and the Furka Pass that twists and turns through the mountains. This piece was only ever going to be about the car, surrounded by iconic details to seek out and in front of a beautiful backdrop – it is perfect for you to use your imagination and invent your own narrative as to where Bond is and what is happening. What I feel has worked really well is how the scene has been ‘photobombed’ by some of the native animals that live within the region. Bond could simply be out of shot stood admiring his car or looking out for others and a red stag just happens to walk into shot. That split second makes all of the difference, I love how it interacts with the gold bars on the ground – a nod to my ‘Love Knows No Bounds’ collection. I absolutely loved reconnecting to this film and this really has fueled my imagination for future pieces - do you expect me to talk?... This was a piece that I have wanted to do for years, it was all about timing and conceiving a scenario that could be the most engaging and ultimately successful, to create the ultimate movie car piece, no holds barred!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAt the point of planning there were so many iconic vehicles that could have gone in with equal success, even with being selective. I wanted this piece to hit you right between the eyes, to stimulate your senses and therefore I had to find the balance between being a visual feast and being too cluttered where the impact was compromised.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAs with the majority of my work you don’t get to see the lead characters, it is the setting and the detail that tells the story and with this piece it opens up the question - who are driving these machines? Could it be all of the movie characters have met up within the desert to watch a cracking car movie, hanging out around the fire, eating corn dogs, listening to Guns \u0026amp; Roses and a dirty V8? Or is it simply a group of enthusiasts doing just that? Over to you.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThere is so much to look at here, way too much to list! I continually kept challenging myself throughout this piece, how could I make things that were already cool, cooler, to change everything up a gear or two. For example, how do you make an already cracking sky pop even more? Add a bloody space shuttle launch that’s how! Is it possible to make the Delorean any cooler? Well I’ve added a Jackal stood arrogantly in front of it so possibly!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIt is so easy to focus on the cars that are clearly on view, look closely though - seems someone has left the party early? Any ideas? It’s a classic darkness and light concept that I love to work with and showing how closely that they can reside within a person, within a building, within their four walls. That was the aim to create something really dark, really beautiful but in a completely different way through showing the characters and touching on the battles that are going on within their heads and what that can ultimately lead to. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe decision to introduce the characters was a big one, it can spoil a piece, but the aim was to have them so that they are literally bleeding out onto the canvas, with sheer emotion that’s captured through the detailing. The idea being with the asylum is that it’s so difficult to leave but so easy to return and that takes on so many meanings. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis piece shows that contrast between the pure, sinister side of the Heath Ledger character where he’s absolutely seething within the shadows but then in complete contrast, we go across to Joaquin Phoenix where he’s totally lost in his own world. There’s no acknowledgement to the destruction that he’s causing, no remorse but ultimately happier and it’s showing how that can completely escalate and morph through. Six years on and wow! Seriously?! What a crazy amount of change and growth since then, I still remember the launch show as if it was yesterday. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe enormity of The Avengers franchise and its following was something that I didn’t under estimate then and I never will. I enlisted the help of a true fan to help do it justice and ensure that I got it right and that decision really worked! More importantly, it felt great as it was a collaborative effort, which is something that I always enjoy when creating new artwork. As so many of you were asking for me to produce a new piece, and seeing as though ‘Lost in Hollywood 2025’ is a body of work that showcases dramatic sequels to past pieces, it seemed the right time to assemble another dramatic scene! As with before, I have also taken the opportunity to get the suggestions from a ‘die hard’ fan so I can’t take the full credit for what you now see, thanks Jemima! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe plan for this new piece was to focus on ‘Avengers Endgame’, a movie that ironically premiered in 2019, so I am playing catch up! ‘The Fight of our Lives’ was set in front of a battered Grand Central Terminal in New York City, where I then set about hiding details amongst the rubble. This is a way of working that I love as it encourages interaction when studying the image. However, sometimes it is good to break away from that and go big, blatant and bold! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSo, whereas the first scene featured a single portal with a subtle silhouetted figure, the intention here was to go for a much more dramatic image and portray the drama from the point where many portals had either already opened or were about to. From watching that moment in the movie, I was utterly mesmerised by the sheer intensity of what was playing out before my eyes. The interesting thing was when I started to research into that part of the film, there was a feeling of discontent amongst some fans that the chosen colour palette was a little muted. In my humble opinion, I actually loved the tones but each to their own! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eNaturally as an artist you don’t simply want to replicate what you already know, where would the fun or authenticity be in that? To sit here and spend upwards of sixty hours on creating the image and hours after when embellishing and signing each edition, it would be so dull! So, I have gone down the path of making everything bolder, brighter and vivid for this take on the Avengers and I loved every minute of it. So much of my portfolio is driven by multi-layered narratives that drive complex and personal artworks, sometimes it is good to step away and focus purely on the technical skill and set about producing an image that is for the fans and one that can easily be enjoyed! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhat you now see is exactly that, a scene that is full to bursting with an array of your favourite characters that each have been worked on to add even more drama and intensity. It is a tricky task to get so many to all work together and look united, I love a challenge and am so pleased with the end result. I know I said that this piece isn’t focused on narratives but there is something there with the way that so many come together to fight for one cause or person and the title pours light on that perfectly. I wanted to create a scene that could be enjoyed for its beauty as well as then being embraced for the links to the movie. From watching the film, it was that moment that overlooked the iconic ‘Cannon Beach’ that jumped out at me. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI set about planning my composition with the original intention of focusing on the ‘Fratelli’s’ hide out which would have given me the opportunity to overlay so much detail that it would have been really gritty, one for another day. I was concerned that if the building dominated then it would lose the impact of the beach backdrop and I was intent on creating a piece that could be hung easily from a visual perspective. So, I allowed the beach and the ocean to shine and then focused on adding an array of detail on the clifftop. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe group of bikes that the gang set out on were superb, like in ‘E.T’ and I saw potential to feature these in a similar way to ‘I’ll Be Right Here’, another piece that came out in 2016 as part of my ‘Lost in Hollywood’ collection. You know I love to get an iconic vehicle into my work where possible and the Jeep Cherokee that the Fratelli gang used was the perfect opportunity. Again, I didn’t want it to dominate but to simply allow me to position key references on and around it, I love how it has turned out! \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMoving onto the bikes, I am so happy with how they have worked out, each allowed me to introduce cool references around them and I love how the subtle magic flows between them, linking them together as one. Have you spotted ‘Gizmo’?! Die-hard fans will know that both Gremlins and The Goonies are linked as both were written by Chris Columbus and produced by Steven Spielberg, and also the line connecting the two films is uttered in the movie when ‘Chunk’ calls the sheriff for help. Unfortunately for him, his reputation as a prankster proceeds him, and the sheriff doubts his story. When Chunk protests that he's telling the truth, the sheriff recounts some of his prank calls, including one about “all those little creatures that multiply when you throw water on them.” This is a clear reference to how lovable Mogwai Gizmo spawned the anarchic creatures that terrorized Kingston Falls in 1984's Gremlins. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSpeaking of subtle links, there is another one within the scene, have you spotted and if so, do you know why?! I’ll leave that to you! Another example of keeping things subtle is the hint of ‘One Eyed Willie’ within the clouds, the aim was to create a moment that would be gone in a blink of an eye. It’s like he is keeping watch over the gang, and his treasure. The previous year I had released ‘The Trilogy’ – a striking 3-part VHS inspired box set that went down really well. I would typically wait a couple of years between each movie piece so I wanted to ensure that I created something a little different. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSo, for many a year now I have seen the potential to produce a bold image that was along similar lines to my ‘Joker’ piece entitled ‘The Devil on my Shoulder’. That particular artwork was incredibly popular with my collectors as it was bold and blatant and more importantly, it allowed me to introduce a 3D and 3-way flip lenticular original and limited edition to show it off to the maximum and it did just that! The formula of having a lead character and then a supporting person on each shoulder works so well and has many possibilities. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI had wanted to create a piece that focused on the intensity of Darth Vader for most of my years since becoming an artist, I am still not quite sure why it has taken me this long to get on with it! As like the Joker, Vader has such a stand out ferocity that is rarely matched, so I knew before I even started that this new piece would allow the opportunity to create something really special! That mask is so iconic and so intimidating and brings back so many vivid memories as a kid watching the films for the first time back in the 80s. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e‘I Am Your Father’ features Vader himself and then flanked by Luke and Leia, it just works so nicely! Is it just one or all three that wear a mask for protection? Look a little closer and you will spot Obi Wan Kenobi and the Emperor too! I could have kept this a black and white tonal piece and it would have worked so well, however I love how the red works so dramatically against the black, whilst the other colours add even more life into the scene. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis ‘push and pull’ style of working is done with the intention of being able to really lay down the texture when creating the canvases as it allows me to work freely with adding hand-painted and sprayed detail. The hand embellished print editions are so vibrant, whilst the MDV offering (original variations) is so intense and detailed, as well as being a great size to make an impact without dominating. Then there is the captivating lenticular! If you are able to, then you really need to see it to see how it moves, it’s quite something! Then finally, something new for me! I wanted to approach it in a completely different way, embracing the ‘two sides to every story’ viewpoint. The piece is portrait to allow me to create depth in the ocean and to run inline with the classic movie poster. It is a completely different perspective to what I have done before, as you look up towards the surface. The boat is based on the ‘ORCA’ from the film, I even looked at the original plan drawings of the model to gauge proportions and shape.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSo what we have is a classic scene that is relating to the narrative where the boat is on the hunt for Jaws, with yellow barrels of explosives cast overboard. Trails of blood mix with water from their attempts to lure the shark in. Here is where I take it to a different place, through the use of beautiful lighting, colour and detail I have made the bottom of the boat (the target) beautiful and intriguing to the shark, is it just intrigued and only able to communicate with its mouth? \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA diesel spill runs downwards through the water creating another source of confusion and attraction to the shark. There is a rusted oil drum plummeting through the water just in front of the shark that has a subtle leak of toxics that escape and leave their mark. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSo at this point is it purely intrigue that lures it to the surface and to the source? There then resides a darker layer as you notice the shadowed shark circling the boat from undeeath.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA subtle trail of blood infiltrates the water close by, suggesting something has been bitten or worse out of view. If you then look at the trail of diesel, there are a number of skeletal fish that swim amongst the toxic trail, killed by the shark, or killed by the real source of evil in the water? What is the actual stain on nature?\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis angle then opens up the question that exists where people strongly believe that sharks are misunderstood and antagonised by human actions, possibly for ones own benefit where lies and scaremongering exist. As those who follow my work will know, I have always steered towards narratives that are driven by darkness and light and Game Of Thrones embodies this and some. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFire and ice, Summer and Winter, good and evil, it’s just perfect. As someone who has been lucky enough to have travelled into the Arctic Circle and who also has a love for the Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds the fact that so many scenes were filmed in the country was the pull on this piece to create the perfect backdrop. Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons play a key role within the scene as do others who you may not be able to see. This is a piece of complete contrast, from the heat of the sky against the frozen sections of the river that divides the landscape to the switch to destructive nature of Viserion. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMusic is a massive part in my work, from concept to the smallest details and there’s a message within the piece that links perfectly to the scene whilst simply happening to be playing whilst creating the foreground, it also links to a much earlier Storyteller piece, so over to you on that! From the reaction since, I think I achieved that!    \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAt the point of planning there were so many iconic vehicles that could have gone in with equal success, even with being selective. I wanted this piece to hit you right between the eyes, to stimulate your senses and therefore I had to find the balance between being a visual feast and being too cluttered where the impact was compromised. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAs with the majority of my work you don’t get to see the lead characters, it is the setting and the detail that tells the story and with this piece it opens up the question - who are driving these machines? Could it be all the movie characters have met up within the desert to watch a cracking car movie, hanging out around the fire, eating corn dogs, listening to Guns \u0026amp; Roses and a dirty V8? Or is it simply a group of enthusiasts doing just that? Over to you. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eA lot has happened since the print edition was first released, there has been a sequel and a James Bond edition to add to collectors’ walls. In addition to creating nostalgic driven (excuse the pun) art, I have really focused on delivering exciting and engaging new formats to showcase my work. One of those has been the incredibly popular and versatile VHS edition. It has been so successful because of its uniqueness, it’s compact size and the level of hand embellishing that all come together to create something truly special to display in a tight space or as part of a number of them together. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSo, given the fact that the very reason for so many of these iconic movie cars and their characters to have gathered deep within the desert was to watch a film on the big screen, it just made perfect sense to turn it into a movie, of sorts! I am so proud and excited about this piece. It isn’t just the final image, but more the process of how it came to be that I love. I like to engage with people to get their thoughts on possible pieces, often laying about in the studio over a tea and way too many bloody custard creams and I remember the idea for how to follow up on the first two Petrolheads pieces. Feedback and interaction are so important, naturally you must go with your gut feeling but I pride myself on keeping my ego locked away and listening to people that can make a difference and have passion in my work. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBack in 2018 when the first ‘Petrolheads’ was released, I had no idea that the reaction would be that strong. I loved the image and knew that it looked superb, but it was simply one from my ‘A New Chapter’ release. Yet, now it is without doubt the most enquired about piece and has sold out in every possible form. 2020 saw the follow up be released and has gotten a cracking reaction, I love the energy and drama on that piece as a contrast to its’ predecessor. ‘PH2’ followed on perfectly as it told the story about what happened when the film had finished, and they still had gas in the tank. There are more chapters to write on that group of cars, all in good time! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHowever, I wanted to do something different this time around. The idea was born from discussing possible James Bond pieces back in 2020 when I was brainstorming for what is now ‘Q Division’. The idea of having a stunning backdrop like Monte Carlo behind a selection of iconic Bond vehicles really excited me but I knew that it had more of a ‘Petrolheads’ quality to it, so that was parked (excuse the pun). I have held it back and back until the timing was right and what we see now is the culmination of so much planning and hours in the studio. So, what do you think?! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThere aren’t many more spectacular backdrops than the Casino in Monte Carlo, if there are then feel free to suggest them and I will take the credit for any future piece! Joking aside, I love the splendour and intrigue of the building and with the beautiful tones of the fading light it comes to life, as do the cars! Good and evil are parked up side by side, a nod to how close darkness and light reside with each other. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFor obvious reasons, Casino Royale is the base for this piece but it, like ‘Q-Division’ and the more recent ‘Underwater Love’ was created to celebrate the end of Daniel Craigs’ time as Bond, slightly delayed due to Covid but we got there eventually! As a kid watching the earlier Bond films it was always the cars and gadgets that excited me, Ok and maybe the Bond girls! There are so many of the classic vehicles that we all love, apologies if your favourite is missing but anymore and it risked looking like grid lock on the M25! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThere is so much detail that surrounds the two cars in the foreground, details that hint at unrest and dark forces at work. It’s funny actually, as the iconic Lotus that went underwater was originally surrounded by a pool of water to link to its other use but with how my mind works it all went a bit dark after ‘Oddjobs’ hat pierced the car (that used to freak me out as a kid). Can you smell Petrol?  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you love the first ‘Petrolheads’ piece, then this 007 edition should get your engine revving as there is a sense of calm and mystery to the composition. What I love is there is a ‘Storyteller’ quality to the scene, a stunning building that clearly has so much going on within, yet we can’t see from looking. Anything else wouldn’t have been iconic enough to sit under the film title so I have chosen to focus on the Death Head Hawkmoth which is such a striking image and one that is clearly associated with the film, not just from the disturbing place that it is put by Bill but because it is dominating film posters and covers since the start.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFor me, I have previously used moths and butterflies within both published and unpublished works as I love the transformation from one state to another and have always linked that to personal development that is linked to happiness and confidence. So, what I have done is tackle this piece by focusing on the killer Jame Gumb, Buffalo Bill. I have focused on the mind-set of the character and what is driving him to commit such horrific crimes in pursuit of his goals, clearly one messed up person but why? \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI am a firm believer that people aren’t born bad, something has to happen to take away the light and bring darkness in floods. This is clearly the case with Jame, abandoned by his mother — an alcoholic prostitute who misspelled “James” on his birth certificate — and then taken into foster care at two years old. The film’s screenplay implies that he had a traumatic childhood. In the movie, Lecter quotes “Billy was not born a criminal, but made one by years of systematic abuse.” His twisted pursuit to become a woman adds a fascinating layer to the plot and his character, killing obese women and using their skin to create a skin suit for him to wear is pretty extreme to say the least.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe Hawkmoth definitely symbolises Gumbs’ determination to see his gender transition become real, blocked by the authorities for being too unstable he has resorted to his own methods. Skin becomes his canvas and make up and blood his paint and the sewing machine his glue. In his eyes he does no wrong, its’ an art form, a procedure, the scene with him dancing to ‘Goodbye Horses’ (which I've had on loop for a large part of creating this piece) is testament to his portrayed innocence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat I love about the moth is the clear divide between the top and bottom halves, one being bright and warm whilst the other being dark and slightly uncomfortable. My interpretation adapts each half with detail that is an opposite to each so the perceived warm and bright half is breaking and combusting whilst the darker half is shrouded in beautiful light and warmth. This is to depict the reality that true feelings and characters are much greater and deep rooted than the depth of one’s skin, a person who wears make up and dances around a room is assigned the happy and carefree tag whilst someone who is cold and dark is deemed to be troubled rather than lacking confidence and simply hasn’t shed their skin and transformed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe detail now in place on the moth takes an iconic image and creates so much more detail and a sense of intrigue which I love, ultimately it is more beautiful for that, an image that symbolises someone's’ layers and troubles whist conveying a wonderful determination to fly. The image of a skull that is present on the head of the moth and that gives it such a sinister feel and link to death is a detail that drew me in, you might not notice at first but when you do it is all you see. What I have done is to replace this with the iconic Hannibal Lecter mask icon as there had to be a link to such a formidable character within this piece. I hope that I have achieved the same result by doing this, that you might not notice initially but once you do it is all you see.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe background had to be kept subtle so as to make the moth shine and ultimately to create a piece that is very different to others within the collection. However, I wanted to introduce detail that further expanded on Gumbs’ character and killings. As mentioned, skin was his canvas, pretty horrific to say the least. I have created a pinched seam around the perimeter of the background that has been stitched to resemble the killers’ skin suit, but treated in a way that it wouldn’t deter people. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHowever, cracks have appeared, fault lines within his work, from these there is darkness escaping within the lower half to match the darkness on the moths’ lower section that focuses centrally on an area that rises up towards its’ lower body. If you look closely you can see the male and female icons drawn onto the canvas - the male icon has devil horns scrawled onto it to represent his aim to be a woman. In contrast, the upper sections show beautiful warm light escaping from the cracks and radiating downwards to the moths’ eyes. We must pass through the darkness, to reach the light.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhilst the piece was coming together it started to remind me of one of the old drawings of species with the moth laid out and hand drawn detail surrounding it. What I then did was to further support Gumbs’ desire to be a woman and the end game that he was refused, if you look closely there is a hand drawn illustration of the female reproductive system - flipped so that the moth didn’t look like he was entering it! Just a subtle detail that adds another layer to the piece. There is a pile of make up powder on the canvas to link to Gumbs’ extravagant side and attempts to disguise.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFinally as his work was viewed by himself as an art I have added a signature bottom right ‘James Gumb’ with the ’s’ smudged out to mimic his mothers error when registering him. It’s one of those that you had no idea that so many of the references that you see in sketches have come from The Shining. Now, what is more terrifying? The horror and gore, or the destruction to one’s mental health and the sheer terror that unfolds as a result. For me, the latter. Without doubt. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIf you know my work and my inspiration then you will know that mental health runs strongly throughout so much of art and its gritty undertow, so The Shining was a brilliant opportunity to embrace that and harness that emotion to create something so intense that it burns inside out. After all the years of saying no, it feels good to have confronted it – the fact that my daughter mocked me for not seeing it when she had already pushed me towards it. Oh, by the way, before anyone calls the authorities, she is 18 now, although come to think about it, I dread to think when she watched it! Let’s move on quickly! \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe Shining is another great example where it could easily sit within my ‘Storyteller’ works as well as my ‘Lost in Hollywood’ collection, but I appreciate that visually, the strength comes from what we saw on screen. What this does, however, is give me the opportunity to treat the piece as a ‘Storyteller’ project and give the focus upon the detail as opposed to the characters, to build that sense of intrigue and suspense, to put you right into the scene, good luck with that! However, the sheer intensity of those bloody twin girls couldn’t be overlooked so for a small detail, they are massive! Jack holding the axe has been shown only as a sinister shadow and as a reflection in the mirror. It was all about the devil well and truly being in the detail. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eColour played a big part in the film despite the harshness of the settings, who can forget that sight of the blood elevator, words fail me. Then there is the blue bike and the psychedelic carpet. I set about making this a big feature. I always get feedback from those close to me whilst I work on each piece and one comment was that the scene looked like ‘Resident Evil’ but more sinister, I’ll take that! Don’t get any ideas about commissioning that please! Anyone for Winne the Pooh?! \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe aim was to mimic a much earlier piece ‘The Wolf Within’ that was a brutally dark interpretation of Red Riding Hood where mental health and its destructive force ran riot and burned so intensely. You’ll see that the colour palette is very similar, another example of a niche piece but one that is adored by those who have one hell of a dark side. Lunatics! I use thorns a lot in pieces to depict evil, they creep and crawl around the scene, attempting to turn all things bad and suffocate good. They amplify the toxicity of the piece and its narrative; I love using them – so much that they feature on the original piece – health and safety can bugger right off in the name of art! \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eConsidering I held off tackling The Shining for so long, I had to really go for it and to put it to bed. The trouble is that the end results are so exciting and authentic that there are many more options to revisit on this one. Not yet though, I need to skip through a field of daisies and catch butterflies in my bonnet first. I will be honest though, something arrived yesterday from America that is part of a future project and it’s everything that I hoped it would be, for now though, it can hide in the cupboard! \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI can’t wait to learn what is your favourite part of ‘REDRUM’, there are so many special touches that I am proud of. It was a classic example of challenging myself technically but working with a real ferocity to be authentic and to inject such a strong feeling of rage within that it does look like it is combusting in front of you, from the inside out. A particular detail that I feel is so powerful and apt is how good and evil are battling it out. The vast majority of the times when I have shown this there is only ever one winner but look closely and you will see a single dove being attacked from all angles, facing a seemingly impossible task due to how evil is fuelled and taking over. There was such a huge scope on possible scenes that could be created and I still have those in my locker but for now I have gone full on with the imposing Hogwarts Castle and the magic that is contained within it’s stone walls. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe building is incredible, monumental in fact, by changing the perspective of the scene it amplifies this to a great effect and through building snowcapped mountains into the background it positions the castle much higher than it possibly could be and further adds to the majestic qualities of the setting and remoteness of Howarts castle. Expanding on the magical qualities of Hogwarts and the overriding narrative I have introduced dramatic waterfalls that spill over the jagged rocks towards you, look closely and they glow, there’s something in the water here. It isn’t just the flowing water that comes towards you, Harry Potter’s pet Snowy Owl is also in full flight as is something else! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis piece has a really strong contrast between darkness and light, genuine innocence and twisted evil that lurks in the shadows and the soot and that creeps up on the castle and those who reside within. What we see is the point where the young lion cub sets out tentatively under the proud watch of his Father. Luckily, it seems that the earlier films were a bit easier to stomach, the effects were not as brutal as what they are now so I could just about deal with it, proper ‘gangsta’ me! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eJust like the ‘Godfather’ movies, I knew so much about ‘Scarface’ but had never actually watched it in full. So, when I came to finally getting down to watching the movie, cushion at the ready, I had to do more research than normal as I needed to really understand the narrative. So, when I kept seeing ‘chainsaw scene’ pop up on web pages, I started to feel a twitch! The initial plan was to release this piece purely in my ’VHS’ format and for it to be driven by the 1980s Miami setting, yet even at the initial research stage and before even watching the film, there was something that really struck me with Tony Montana’s office. The scale of the lamps, the colours, the backdrop – there was something that kept making me go back to it. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHowever, despite getting that buzz knowing that something special could come from this, I sat down and watched the film and the ‘Pacino’ masterclass. What a movie, a shining example of how greed really does breed monsters. I loved it, absolutely loved it and my mind was well and truly made up on the chosen direction for this piece. I instead chose to lead with a full scene image that was set within Tony’s office and mimic the composition from my 2021 ‘Godfather’ piece ‘Vendetta’ that took you inside ‘Don Corleone’s’ office and right in front of the main man himself. Powerful. So, what you now see is Montana sat at his desk, looking to his right slightly. The ideal scenario would be that collectors who had ‘Vendetta’ could then hang ‘The World Is Yours’ adjacent to it so that Tony is half looking towards the Don, a subtle nod of respect. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe end result is one that I feel so bloody excited about, the impact is dramatic, whilst the sense of accomplishment is right up there, as I pieced the office together from scratch as I did with ‘Vendetta’. I love a challenge and even more when that seed grows and manifests into something really special. I was particularly drawn to the use of violet throughout the film, it features heavily and is suggested that it is due to the fact that the colour represents death. Now it links to the other key element, the blackened bird that has flown in through the open doors and is rising up behind him whilst his back is turned. As with ‘Vendetta’ and the ‘Godfather’ movie where the use of oranges was often placed to suggest death is close by, the Raven is representing how his enemies are rising up behind him, none more so than we saw in the epic final scene where he goes down in a ‘Yeyo’ fuelled blaze of glory by being picked off by ‘The Skull’. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSo, for a ‘late starter’ I hope I have done this incredible movie justice as I know how people really love the film. I’m pretty sure that we all have our unique memories or interesting experiences as a kid clambering onto a donkey or dodging the gulls as you ran to the Helter Skelter after scoffing your own body weight in chips, Candy Floss, and ice cream! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere are so many examples of artists who have depicted the classic British seaside experience in so many different styles and levels of success, this is a first for me and I’ve been creating art with meaning for over ten years now! It is such a brilliant subject to take on, honestly the opportunities were endless! The aim was to combine a good number of iconic details into the scene that we all know and love and inject a hearty dollop of undiluted randomness that my collectors have come to love from my art. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI set about wanting to create a warm and positive image that instantly pulled you in and made you feel happy. The general tones of the scene are so lovely and differ from the typical bright blue sky and vivid blue sea. This then allows for the vibrancy of the detail to really pop! This quirky van serves all the favourites as well as wonderful Belgian ices and waffles! It is a beautiful link to my wonderful Grandparents, Mary, and Geoff who I miss dearly and who gave us so many amazing holidays both in the UK and Belgium.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAn iconic ‘Punch and Judy’ show along with a striking Helter Skelter sit proudly in the background with both helping to stir up so many fond memories. Personally, I love the subtle details in the sky, the foam planes that lasted one or two throws were always a must to buy with our spending money. That particular artwork was incredibly popular with my collectors as it was bold and blatant and more importantly, it allowed me to introduce a 3D and 3-way flip lenticular original and limited edition to show it off to the maximum and it did just that! The formula of having a lead character and then a supporting person on each shoulder works so well and has many possibilities. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI had wanted to create a piece that focused on the intensity of Darth Vader for most of my years since becoming an artist, I am still not quite sure why it has taken me this long to get on with it! As like the Joker, Vader has such a stand out ferocity that is rarely matched, so I knew before I even started that this new piece would allow the opportunity to create something really special! That mask is so iconic and so intimidating and brings back so many vivid memories as a kid watching the films for the first time back in the 80s. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e‘I Am Your Father’ features Vader himself and then flanked by Luke and Leia, it just works so nicely! Is it just one or all three that wear a mask for protection? Look a little closer and you will spot Obi Wan Kenobi and the Emperor too! I could have kept this a black and white tonal piece and it would have worked so well, however I love how the red works so dramatically against the black, whilst the other colours add even more life into the scene. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis ‘push and pull’ style of working is done with the intention of being able to really lay down the texture when creating the canvases as it allows me to work freely with adding hand-painted and sprayed detail. The hand embellished print editions are so vibrant, whilst the MDV offering (original variations) is so intense and detailed, as well as being a great size to make an impact without dominating. Then there is the captivating lenticular! If you are able to, then you really need to see it to see how it moves, it’s quite something! Then finally, something new for me! This is the first time that I have introduced a stunning brushed aluminium print edition that is set within a sleek aluminium frame.
